Mastery & weapon proficiency
An experience bar, a purchased upgrade and a learned ability are different steps. Find the one that is blocking your next unlock.
Weapon proficiency grows through fighting with the matching class, then requires a trainer purchase. Grimoire Mastery grows from compatible magic damage. Buying a weapon, raising proficiency and learning its skills do not automatically complete each other.

Which system are you improving?
| System | What advances it | What to check next |
|---|---|---|
| Weapon proficiency | Fighting with the corresponding Light, Medium or Heavy class | Experience bar, trainer, purchase resources and recommendation restriction |
| Grimoire Mastery | Damage from compatible magic attacks | Mastery progress and the attributes offered by its upgrade interface |
| Weapon skill or passive | Meeting its listed prerequisites and buying it | Correct trainer, proficiency gate, points and Marks |
| Magic ability or passive | Its own unlock and purchase requirements | Meditation or Grimoire Echo interface; inspect the relevant requirement |
Upgrade a weapon proficiency
- Use the weapon category you want to develop and fill its proficiency experience bar.
- Visit the corresponding weapon trainer. The community region guide places the Dojo and weapon progression NPCs at Whispering Hills; see the location directory.
- Inspect the purchase. The saved Mastery reference lists 15 Insight, 2 Stat Points and a variable Marks cost per proficiency upgrade. Use the current trainer screen for the actual requirements and Marks amount.
- Purchase the increase, then inspect the next bar and available skills.
Raf_Dev’s trainer walkthrough at 0:22 separates the trainer visit from the purchase resources at 0:50. A full bar without the required resources can still leave the upgrade unavailable.
The level-three recommendation gate
The community Mastery page lists a normal proficiency cap of 3. It says further advancement requires Percival’s Recommendation, and that progressing one class beyond that gate locks further upgrades to the other classes. Check that restriction before committing to an advanced category.
The same source identifies 10 as a configured maximum. That is a data reference, not this wiki demonstrating that every character can reach it under every progression state. The video’s loose suggestion of no limit after the recommendation is not evidence of unlimited proficiency.
Buying a weapon skill
Go to the trainer for your class and select the actual ability. Compare its proficiency requirement, skill-point cost and Marks price. Do not substitute the resources for a proficiency upgrade: a skill purchase is a different transaction.
The Trainers reference also lists class-specific passives. Some skill effects, prices and trainer locations remain incomplete, so the current purchase screen is more useful than an assumed universal cost.
Develop Grimoire Mastery
The community reference says compatible magic attacks earn mastery experience when they deal damage. Casting into empty space is not the documented method. It lists damage-based experience capped at 150 per hit, 50,000 total experience, and 10 progression steps, each awarding a mastery point.
Its listed per-point choices are:
| Choice | Community-listed effect per point |
|---|---|
| Damage | +1% damage |
| Cooldown | 1% cooldown reduction |
| Energy Cost | 1% energy-cost reduction |
| Penetration | +1 penetration |
These are community-listed values, not a new measurement. The source also describes 50% limits for cooldown and energy reductions, but ten mastery points do not by themselves establish a route to those limits or a universal final-build cap. It notes that some attacks ignore Grimoire Mastery.
For active spells and passives, the beginner recording distinguishes Meditation from the Grimoire Echo at 4:29. Review those menus separately from a mastery-point allocation.
Find the missing requirement
| Symptom | First checks |
|---|---|
| Proficiency will not increase | Correct class, full experience bar, Insight, unspent Stat Points and Marks |
| Progress stops at the listed level-three gate | Recommendation dialogue and its weapon-class restriction |
| A weapon can be equipped but a skill is unavailable | Skill purchase state and that ability’s own proficiency/point/currency requirements |
| Casting does not advance Grimoire Mastery | Whether the attack actually hits and qualifies for mastery experience |
| A passive is visible but has no effect | Purchased status, prerequisites and its combat trigger |
For later magic progression, augment slots and grimoire evolution have their own quests. Increasing mastery is not a substitute for completing their objectives.
